A recent Reading Buddy seminar gave Buddies strategies for helping transitional readers. These are students who are “nearly fluent” readers, kids who have begun to adopt reading behaviors that will lead them toward more advanced skills, but who might need a little help navigating this transition.
The seminar highlighted strategies in five focus areas for these students: self-monitoring, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and decoding. If you missed the seminar, or want to review what you learned there, a link to the seminar slides and the handout are below.
